Physical Education

Philosophy

Within the Physical Education Department at Warblington School efforts are made to encourage students to be positively interested in their own physical condition.

Opportunities are provided for students to experience a variety of activities.  Through these there is an emphasis on physical skill and the development of students’ social values and self confidence.

Students are encouraged to derive enjoyment from sporting activities and increase specific knowledge and interest in a few, therefore enabling them to develop interests beyond their compulsory school years.  Above all else, effort and hard work are rewarded in lessons.

Curriculum

Key Stage 3

Students in KS3 have two one-hour lessons per week.   These are predominately taught in single sex classes, although some classes are taught to mixed groups in order to best support our students’ learning.  Some activities are taught twice within a year to ensure depth of delivery.

Key Stage 4

Students in KS4 have now moved to full cohort accredited courses in BTEC Dance and BTEC Sport.  Students receive four lessons per fortnight over the new three year KS4 and study a range of practical and theoretical components designed to improve their grade.

Extra-Curricular Activities

There is a wide variety of teams/clubs that operate in a number of activities across all year groups, including football, netball, rugby, hockey, basketball, trampolining, athletics, tennis, rounders and cricket.  In addition to clubs and teams, the PE Department runs many different trips as rewards for the efforts of our students.  Recently they have included: International Rugby at Twickenham, Women’s FA Cup Final at Wembly, National League Basketball Matches, Netball Tour, Outdoor and Adventurous Activities at Little Canada on the Isle of Wight and Watersports Trip to the South of France.
